About Me

RC Hobby Universe is about the love of controlling things as they race, float and fly without any strings attached!

My very first RC experience was Spring time, back in the late 1960's when my "Uncle" George (my father's business associate...everyone in those days was called either "Uncle" or "Aunt") took his huge nitro powered RC plane out of his basement and down to the airfields in Leonia, New Jersey (now the interchange of Rte 80 and the New Jersey Turnpike).

He spent most of the previous Fall and Winter building this beautiful balsa wood plane of bright yellow and proudly displayed it to the few who had gathered to watch it's maiden flight.

I was only about six years old and was truly amazed at how this model plane could taxi down the dirt road, turn around, build up speed, and then soar high into the air!

Always one to impress, Uncle George did a few loop de loops and barrel rolls.

As he came out of one he leveled off the plane and then away it went...further and further to the West...where the sun was going to set in just a few hours.

A change of mood washed across the crowd as the plane became harder and harder to distnguish from the local aviary population.

I asked my Dad what happened, and he replied, "Uncle George lost contact with the plane and can't get it back."

I then asked,"Where's it going?"

He said, "oh...it'll probably land in someone's backyard."

And of course being only six I said very smartly,"...then let's ring their doorbell and ask for it back!"

And so began my journey into the RC Hobby Universe!

One more story...a few years later:

Remember the old Cox planes that flew with strings and a handle? Well, that "easy start" kit was anything but easy, but I did finally get it started and into the air!

I was in a cul de sac near my house and decided today was the day this plane would fly! It was a plastic red bi-plane with Red Baron stickers discreetly placed. Fokker de la Cox!

With the engine whinning "weeeeeeeeeeee", I ran to the middle of the street where I laid down the handle and began to work the plane forward and up. It was exhilerating to finally see this $10 toy plane flying high and around...and around...and around...I was moving my arm up and the plane went up...moved my arm back level with the ground and the plane followed...how cool!

Now mind you, I'm not the last to go on a roller coaster but spin me around in a circle 10 times and don't be surprised if I fall down, which was about to happen...but just before I was ready to call it quits (no...I never thought about how I would land the plane and throw a towel over it while still holding the handle and 20 feet of line), at it's highest position, the plane ran out of gas!

Let me also remind you that this plane was not meant for gliding. There was no safe way to bring this puppy down. Suffice to say, it drop like a rock and shattered into a gazillion pieces...sigh...but I still felt victorius...man, what a rush!

And now a bit about myself:

I still live in New Jersey and currently own an RC store called RC Discounts where we sell many of the items discussed on these pages.

This RC-Hobby-Universe.com website is NOT designed to sell you anything.

It's designed to provide you with information so if you do choose to get into the RC hobby, then you've learned some more than had you not spent some time here.

My goal is to continuously add relevant content supplied by myself, my suppliers, and the experts that I know.

Although, as you can see, I have provided links to my store should you be interested in reading more about a specific product or in purchasing it.

You can always call me directly if you have any further questions regarding any of the products you read about here. If I can't answer your question I'll research it personally or put you in touch directly with an expert.

My most frequent customer is the father of a boy who wants to fly an RC plane. Maybe it's because like me, the father had an experience when he was younger that made an impact on him and got him excited about this hobby long ago.

Or maybe it's just that he's looking for a great new way to spend some quality time with his son (or daughter) before they grow up and it's no longer "cool" to hang out with Dad.

My other most frequent customer is the grown up Son who is looking to reconnect with his father, typically who is retired and has the free time to go to the local field and fly a plane.

Regardless of why you're here, I only hope that you enjoy what we have to offer and that you come back again...and tell a friend or two!

Thanks for visiting!
